Everywhere you look there are advertisements for teeth whiteners and with so many of us drinking things such as coffee that stain our teeth there is little wonder why. While red wine is often included in this group of drinks that stain teeth science may be proving otherwise on just how bad it will hurt your teeth compared to white wine.
A recent study in Germany has shown that grapes such as Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio which are used in the production of white wine cause more damage to teeth than those which are used to make red wine. White wines were shown to wear the enamel away on teeth much quicker than previously thought. This will make those teeth more sensitive to hot and cold as well as more susceptible to staining from other beverages such as coffee, tea, and soda.
For those who love and prefer white wine this is bad news but the study also showed that eating cheese with your wine will help due to the calcium that it contains. Of course for a change of pace white wine drinkers should give a quality red wine a try and make sure they use a wine decanter in order to bring out its full flavor for the best experience.
