Trying To Stay Environmentally Concise With Wine Packaging

December 6, 2010 By Rhino Wino Leave a Comment

As it has become more and more important to so many on the planet to not outstrip our resources or harm the environment wine packaging has come under plenty of scrutiny. From every step in the wine making process the impact on the environment is carefully considered by consumers who do want to contribute with the problem.
While some wine consumers now prefer the wine packaged in eco-friendly boxes others stick with traditional bottles for their favorite wines. While boxes may seem like a much friendlier packaging for the environment the plastic bags inside do not biodegrade well. And for bottles, the cork used to seal the wine has been under plenty of fire lately for believe it harms the environment.

Contrary to popular belief though the cork used in stopping wine bottles does not require the tree to be cut down and there is now a movement to change this false perspective on wine corks. Cork has been used for ages and for good reason since it allows the wine to age properly unlike any metal screw caps or stoppers. Plus studies have shown that metal or plastic stoppers actually cause more green house gases than traditional cork.

For those who continue to purchase their wine in bottles seal it up tightly after you open it with a Metro Wine Bottle Stopper to keep it fresh between glasses.
