When a wine enthusiast thinks of visiting a vineyard for a tasting the areas they often travel to are the common ones that are known for their excellent wines. From the traditional Napa Valley region to more exotic trips to Italy or even South Africa these are the places that many take their time to travel to. So when told that there are some great vineyards in the desert southwest many will not believe that quality grapes can grow in such a dry environment.
But the Callaghan family in southern Arizona is doing just that to create a fine Petit Verdot that has wine lovers raving. Tucked away in some rolling green hills in the region this vineyard is growing some excellent grapes and creating a wonderful wine that that is worth the visit to the region. Of course just like when visiting any other vineyard a enthusiast should bring along their wine bags in order to bring home some of the fine wines that are offered to enjoy later at home. While the other parts of the country are starting to feel the cooler temperatures of fall now is the ideal time to visit the desert in Arizona.
