The name of the wine and its packaging can actually influence which wines we buy to an extent. A uniquely named wine or one in an eye catching bottle are more likely to grab your attention in the first place, so of course coming up with out of the normal appearance will make a wine more popular. So of course these nerdy wines are aiming at getting your attention. And they definitely are stirring a bit of a buzz.
An example of quirky wine is the brilliantly names Chaos Theory from Brown Estate Vineyards in Napa Valley. It is a blend of cabaret sauvignon and zinfandel that is marketed as being able to find the order in a seeming chaos. Another great wine is Educated Guess produced by Roots Run Deep Winery, also in Napa. This is a play on the fact that wine making is all about making scores of educated guesses and hoping you do okay because there are no completely right or wrong answers. Wine makers really have to risk it from everything to where to plant to how to age, if at all.
So the trend is turning from the animal names of a few years ago to more nerdy and thought provoking names. But not everything is in the name so still fill your celler wine carrier with care and attention.
