While wine and art have always been a perfect combination the environment has not always been as well matched with the industry. True the land being used to create these wonderful tasting wines is being kept from development the water usage and electrical demands that a winery places on the land can be a little hard on it at times.
More wineries though are taking the time to make their process of creating wine art in a bottle greener and healthier for the environment. Wineries can install solar panels to cut their energy needs and put that sun to work doing more than just growing the grapes they will need to make their wine. Many wineries are also taking steps to put less of a burden on the water, which is available to them, as well as ensuring that the runoff from their winery does not affect the local watershed.
Wineries which comply with certain standards are eligible to receive a gold standard certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). More and more wineries are taking the steps to make their process greener and receiving that certificate to make their winery not only more appealing but to help sustain their product for future generations.
