There is no question that China is experiencing a huge economic boom. This boom is creating a larger number of wealthy families who are looking for new ways to spend their new fortunes. Wine has always been a luxury that the wealthy have enjoyed and these new wealthy Chinese are enjoying wine as never before.
Elimination of wine duties has Hong Kong now selling wine, as it never has before. Before a wine enthusiast was more likely to find wine bags that were made in the country before they were able to score a quality bottle of fine wine. Now old World War II bunkers in the country are set up with climate control to handle the 75% more wine that is stored and distributed from the country before it heads off to other Asian countries.
While the sales of wines in Hong Kong are mostly based on the new rich in China importing the finest wines possible there are others who are now beginning to enjoy wine as well thanks to these changes. The average every day person in Hong Kong is finding that wines are more available at grocery stores for their enjoyment as well making Hong Kong a top wine hub for the continent.
