Climate change is a hotly debated topic all around the world as science has not proven 100% if the temperature is rising on the planet and exactly what is the cause. But in some regions temperatures are being recorded at all time highs and planting seasons are changing because of these changes. For some of the wine regions in the Burgundy area of France are seeing significant changes in their planting seasons for their wines that may effect the vineyards in a negative way in the very long term.
Burgundy vineyards are harvesting their grapes an average of two weeks earlier than usual and the temperatures during the growing season is about ten degrees higher over the past twenty years. For those who truly know wine and wine accessories well this is significant since the growing conditions have a large role in the flavor the grapes and how the wine will taste that is made from them.
These types of temperature changes and growing season reductions are happening not only in Burgundy but also in other wine regions around the globe. Many scientist speculate that if this trend continues these regions will need to adjust their locations to continue to produce optimal wines. For some wine regions this may not be something that can happen, placing their future in jeopardy.
