It seems that each month another health study is done finding yet another health benefit to drinking red wine in moderation. It seems there is nothing that a glass of red wine a day cannot do for the body while overindulgence is the only potential negative to it.

A new study has emerged now showing that red wine such as Bordeaux can prevent diseases that can lead to blindness. The resveratrol found in the grapes used in making red wine can stop the uncontrollable growth in blood vessels in the eye which can lead to blindness.

Published in the July edition of the American Journal of Pathology this study has shown that diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration can be not only controlled but even prevented in high risk patients with resveratrol. For many diabetics and elderly the idea of losing your site and therefore their current quality of life is something they want to prevent at all costs.

This new study shows that preventing blindness can be as simple as filling those bordeaux wine glasses with a classic red wine and enjoying just a little each day. This will benefit not just eyes but many other parts of the body as well.

Red wine has been scientifically proven to have amazing health benefits for those who consume a glass a day. From improved heart function to cancer prevention and more. But a new study has just found another benefit that comes with the regular moderate consumption of red wine.

In a study at John Hopkins scientists found that red wine can help reduce the damages to the brain after the body experiences a stroke. It seems that the resveratrol, a natural compound that is in the skins of red grapes, can help reduce brain damage that is associated with strokes. It seems the resveratrol increases the level of an enzyme in the body that is known to put up a sort of shield the nerve cells in the brain.

While we never know if and when a stroke will strike this little preventative measure can decrease the risk involved with a stroke by simply taking in a glass of red wine a day. This means that shoppers have yet another good reason to add red wine to their Barossa Botanica Wine Tote on their next trip to the store.

It is not often that wine critics agree on just how good a wine is and it is looking like the 2009 Bordeaux is considered by many to be the best ever. This spring wine critics from all over the world to the largest wine growing regions and any are raving about the latest crop of Bordeaux.

Most often critics just do not agree but once in awhile a concesus is reached and the 2009 vintage is already being compared to that of the 2005, 1961, and 1947 Bordeaux wine produced which were some of the finest vintages produced. Of course not every red Bordeaux produced in 2009 is as outstanding as those reviewed but the standard is high and exceptional quality will be the standard for this wine vintage.

For those looking to fill some empty spots in a cellar for future use this red will do the job perfectly and will make a above average selection now. While you do not have to shop in the high end Bordeaux market to get the full flavor and effect. But whichever price range you choose to enjoy of this above average wine make sure to give it the special serving treatment it deserves with a Ravenscroft Crystal Excaliber Decanter.

Many novice wine enthusiasts falsely believe that having a set of good crystal wine glasses is all that is needed to get the best flavor from their favorite wines. But there is more to choosing the right wine glass and the selection will vary from wine to wine. For this reason serious wine lovers spend a considerable amount of time building up a varied collection of wine glasses for each type of wine they enjoy.

When drinking Bordeaux it is important to get glasses that are designed to bring out the flavor of this red wine for the best experience. Bordeaux wine glasses are tall with a broad bowl for holding the beverage. This large bowl gives plenty of room for swirling this full bodied red wine. This will increase the complex taste while minimizing any negative smells from overripe grapes. The design also directs the wine to the back of the mouth where the flavor is greater enhanced for the best taste experience from each bottle of wine.

Having the right wine glasses for each type of wine can make every bottle that a wine enthusiast opens its absolute best as opposed to being only average.

When we think of paring food with fine wine we usually consider exquisite meals that feature the finest foods served along with premium wines. But on occasion, especially in the winter, we just want some classic comfort food served with a simple table wine. For many, one of the most popular comfort foods is meatloaf since for them it was a traditional meal served at home by mom.

Of course many wine lovers may not stop and think about the wine they serve with meatloaf, but it is possible to find a bottle that will compliment this simple meal perfectly. The best part is there are many kinds that are less than $15 a bottle that will keep the meal simple while augmenting the flavor simultaneously.

Since meatloaf is very similar to meatballs used in some Italian dishes it is no surprise that Italian wines will pare well with this comfort food. A simple Italian red wine will do the trick for the evening but consumers should not forget to use their wine decanters to bring out the flavor in the wine to best go with the meal. For your next meal of comfort food do not forget that there is a perfect wine even for simple classics that reminds of us home.

There is nothing quite like a red wine that has had plenty of time to age and has been properly stored in a cellar during that time period. When stored out of the light and at the right temperature for an extended period red wine has the opportunity to age as it should. Of course the wine must be stored correctly or outside variables can have a negative effect on just how the wine ends up tasting.

Of course to cellar a bottle of wine you must start off with a premium wine that will benefit from time in storage to promote its flavors. The cellar should not expose the wine to light and should be kept at a constant sixty degrees with seventy percent humidity. This will insure that the wine will be kept perfect until the day you are ready to enjoy it.

After removing a red wine from the cellar to enjoy it is important to also not rush in and pour a glass to experience. Reds need to be poured into wine decanters in order to remove any sediment that has settled in the aging process and to allow the air to aerate the wine. Once wine lovers experience red wines after aging many have a hard time going back to non-aged reds.

While flowers are a common gift for Valentines Day many prefer to give a nice box of chocolates maybe even pared with a fine wine for sharing during a romantic evening. Nothing is more special for a couple than sharing wine and chocolate by candlelight with each other at the end of this special day for couples.

Of course finding the perfect red wine to go with that gourmet chocolate is not always easy for some. The wine should compliment the chocolate and not give it a curdled taste from too much acid. While at the same time the chocolate should not create a bad finishing taste with the wine on the palette.

Look for sweet red wines that will be at least as sweet as the chocolate you will be using. Dark chocolates of course are not as sweet as milk so these will not need a wine with as much sweetness for a good pairing. Of course full bodied wine should be used with bolder chocolates while lighter tasting treats will not need a wine that is as bold. Whichever red wine is chosen it should be aerated within crystal wine decanters in order to bring out the full flavor of the wine that had been chosen.

Wine enthusiast know that when consuming any wine having a glass big enough to swirl the liquid around inside is important for getting the full flavor and experience of each bottle opened. But for red wine in particular having large glasses means having plenty of space for the wine to come into contact with the air.

While every red wine should be properly aerated preferably in a crystal wine decanter using large wine glasses can do the trick as well in a pinch. With plenty of surface area not only will the glass be ideal for swirling the wine inside but will give plenty of area for the wine to come into contact with the air.

Of course there is more to picking a good wine glass for each serving than just finding the biggest bowl. There has been a whole study on wine glasses and their shapes and how each type of wine will respond to bowl sizes both in width and height. So for the wine enthusiast who is wanting to ensure they are getting the best possible experience each and every time research should be done on not only the wine but wine glasses to serve them in as well. Having all the wine accessories you need is important for getting the most from your wine.
