While you can easily buy wine decanters and other wine accessories online it is still next to impossible to buy a bottle of fine wine from your computer and have it shipped to your home. While Amazon.com prides itself on being a place where you can buy just about everything it looks like the online retail giant is giving up on its plan to add bottles of wine to its offerings.
Originally to have launched in fall of 2008 wine sales online was supposed to make getting new wines just a mouse click away. Unfortunately the large amount of varying laws in states makes shipping wine possible in some places but filled with red tape in others. Once you add in the fragile nature of wine bottles and the special shipping considerations that are needed this makes creating an online wine retailer an even larger hurdle to overcome.
While Amazon may be giving up on selling wine online and shipping it to your door there are still small vineyards that are trying to make this possible. Though these vineyards will not offer the variety or have the convenience of Amazon wine lovers have to hope that one day the obstacles can be overcome so wine can be easily ordered over the internet.
